Asbestos Management Plans - Non UKAS Accredited
Asbestos management requires more than just commissioning an asbestos survey. ASM produce tailor made asbestos management solutions for our customers, offering advice about exactly what needs to be done to meet asbestos regulations. Our asbestos management solutions can include
- Consulting on the scope of work needed
- The production of a tailored management plan
- Advice on what asbestos services or UKAS accredited inspections (asbestos surveys) are required
- The production of asbestos registers listing all asbestos containing materials
- Advice on further actions required (from no action to encapsulation or removal)
- Evaluation or sub- contracting of asbestos removal contractors
- Site based asbestos air monitoring activities
- Laboratory asbestos testing services in our UKAS accredited laboratory
- Full asbestos project management
Your asbestos management plan sets out how your company plans to manage the risks from asbestos containing materials identified in your property.
Asbestos Testing - UKAS Accredited
Our bulk asbestos samples analysis service is a quick and convenient way for companies to test suspect materials. We can visit your site and sample any suspect materials or you can submit your own samples to our in-house laboratory for asbestos identification. Results are usually available within 48 hours of delivery. We can however offer a ‘fast track’ and ‘while you wait’ service for more urgent situations
Asbestos Survey and Management Limited holds UKAS accreditation for in-house asbestos testing in our own laboratory. Our lab ensures the rapid and fully traceable turnaround of both samples taken during asbestos surveys by our own asbestos surveyors and of third party samples sent to us for identification. Our trained analysts all hold British Occupational Hygiene (BOHS) P401 qualifications for the identification of asbestos in potential asbestos containing materials. To maintain our UKAS accreditation as a testing laboratory, we routinely participate in quality assurance tests to ensure all our analysts are delivering accurate asbestos identification and counts.
Sample identification is by polarized light microscopy (PLM) in accordance with HSG248 the analyst’s guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures and Asbestos Survey and Management Limited Instruction Manual.
Asbestos Surveys - UKAS Accredited
Asbestos regulations (specifically The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012) place a legal duty to take active steps to identify, manage and monitor asbestos containing materials in any non-domestic property. Part of this legal duty includes carrying out an inspection of the property (ideally by a UKAS accredited inspection body).

Air Monitoring and Four Stage Clearance - UKAS Accredited
There are several different types of air testing relating to work with asbestos.
Background
Background and reassurance sampling are used to determine the prevailing airborne fibre concentrations. Background sampling usually refers to monitoring carried out before an activity (e.g. asbestos removal or remediation) to establish the baseline fibre level. It may also be performed to assess whether normal occupancy is giving rise to airborne fibres for any reason.
Personal Exposure Monitoring
Personal tests are carried out to assess the effectiveness of the control measures in place to reduce exposure and dust generation and that the respiratory protective equipment being used is of a sufficiently high protection factor for the task.
Leak
This test is used to assess the integrity of the asbestos enclosure (Ideally after a successful air test has been undertaken) to make sure it remains intact and that airborne fibres do not escape. These samples are typically taken by the on-site analyst to confirm that fibre concentrations outside the enclosure are not raised and they should be carried out daily in areas adjacent to the enclosure to determine that there is no deterioration in the standard of control or enclosure integrity over the course of each work period.
Clearance
Clearance air testing is only carried out after a successful visual examination by a UKAS accredited Asbestos consultant. The purpose of this test is to determine whether, after the removal of Asbestos, fibre levels inside the enclosure are below the lowest limit of detection, enabling re-occupation of the area.
Reassurance
Reassurance testing is conducted to provide the customer with further confidence that all areas have been left in a state that is suitable for reoccupation of employees and third parties.
Near-source static sampling
Near-source static sampling assesses the release and spread of asbestos fibre concentrations near sources (e.g. inside enclosures, work without an enclosure, near simulated disturbance activities in unoccupied areas, buildings and enclosures to represent typical release scenarios for normal occupation or maintenance activities, disturbance of asbestos in soil and made ground, or mineral processing etc)
Far-source/perimeter sampling
Far-source/perimeter sampling is conducted around the perimeter of the site where there may be other workers, public access or residential and commercial buildings
